Abstract

Globally, 42 million children under the age of five were found to be overweight or obese in 2013.1 Childhood obesity is a growing epidemic globally.2 The factors attributing to increasing childhood obesity are increased intake of high calorie foods that are low in vitamins, minerals and micronutrients coupled with decreased physical activity.

The rate of increase of childhood overweight and obesity has been more than 30% higher in developing countries than that of developed countries.
